The Layout Work Came First
The wall removal separating the kitchen and dining room was a key step in opening the main floor into one connected living space. Short walls out, open space in. On the opposite end of the floor, we framed a new wall with a door to create a private home office, giving the family a quiet workspace without sacrificing the open feel of the rest of the floor.
Kitchen Renovation
With the new footprint in place, the kitchen remodel took center stage. The old cabinetry, countertops, and appliances were fully removed. We started fresh. New custom white shaker cabinets were installed throughout, paired with brushed gold hardware that runs consistently across every cabinet and drawer. The island is a contrasting dark navy, topped with a large white quartz countertop (the kind of surface that handles real daily use without showing wear). A farmhouse apron sink sits under the window, finished with a matching brushed gold faucet. Behind the range, we built a custom shiplap hood with a natural wood accent trim — practical ventilation that doubles as the visual centerpiece of the kitchen makeover.
The backsplash is full marble subway tile, running from countertop to upper cabinets across the entire cooking and sink wall. Under-cabinet lighting was added throughout, and recessed ceiling lights were repositioned to match the new layout. The kitchen remodeling scope here wasn't just cosmetic — it was a full rebuild designed around how this family actually uses the space.
The Living Room Got Attention Too
The fireplace wall was clad in horizontal shiplap, painted white, with a clean natural wood mantel. No complex millwork, no overdone surround. Just a well-proportioned fireplace wall that anchors the room without competing with the kitchen.
Flooring was replaced across the entire main floor — 4-inch white oak hardwood, installed consistently from the front entry through the living room, dining area, and into the kitchen. The lighter oak made a real difference. The old flooring was dark and heavy; the new floor opens the space visually and ties every area together.
The result is a main floor that finally matches how the family lives. Open where it should be. Private where it needs to be. And a kitchen that, from design to installation, was built to last.
