Small Bathroom Remodel in Washington, DC

When a homeowner in Washington, DC came to NextDay Remodeling with a vision for their townhouse bathroom, the goal was clear: a complete transformation. No cosmetic patches, no halfway measures. Just a full bathroom remodeling project built from the ground up. The result is a compact, high-functioning space that blends modern fixtures with timeless design, and every square inch was earned through careful planning and skilled execution.

A Layout Built Around the Client

The first order of business was rerouting the plumbing entirely. The homeowner had a specific preference — swap the locations of the vanity and toilet. Our crew rerouted both the supply and waste lines to make it work correctly and cleanly. Sometimes the best bathroom renovation starts with listening to exactly what the client wants, then figuring out how to deliver it.

Stripped Down to the Structure

This wasn't a tile-over-tile job. We gutted the entire room down to the original wall framing and floor joists, giving us a clear view of the townhouse's historic bones. Where timber showed age, we reinforced it. Where the subfloor needed leveling for the new geometric tile, we addressed it at the source. That kind of groundwork is what separates a bathroom remodeling project that lasts 30 years from one that starts showing cracks after five.

Permits, Inspections, and Code Compliance

Washington, DC has its own set of regulatory requirements, and we handled all of it. Permits were pulled before work began. Rough-in plumbing, electrical, and structural elements were each inspected and signed off by local officials at the appropriate stages. Every phase of work was performed to current local code, keeping the home safe, insurable, and legally compliant.

The Design: Modern Classic Done Right

The finished space pairs a white Shaker-style vanity and quartz countertop with a bold black-and-white hexagonal floor pattern. The floor tile adds visual depth without overwhelming the narrow footprint. On the tub, a barn-style sliding glass door keeps the profile slim while keeping the subway tile and built-in niche fully visible. The large LED-integrated mirror ties the whole room together (clean, modern light without the bulk of wall sconces).
