Custom Home Building in Arlington, VA – Project #74

Some projects stop you in your tracks. This custom home in Arlington's Summit Veitch neighborhood is one of them. As the home builder and general contractor behind this build, NextDay Remodeling delivered a ground-up transformation that redefined what modern home building looks like in Northern Virginia. The foundation stayed. Everything else? Built new, built right, built to last. Scroll through the gallery and see the craftsmanship for yourself.

From Foundation to Finish: The Story Behind This Home

This wasn't a teardown. We retained the existing foundation and rebuilt everything above it — three finished levels, 3,500 sq ft of living space, and a design by Axis Architects that feels both bold and timeless. That's the kind of challenge where experience as a home building contractor makes all the difference.

Every phase of this home construction was permitted, inspected, and executed in full compliance with Arlington County building codes. No shortcuts, no grey areas — just clean, transparent work verified by local inspectors at every stage. That's the NextDay Remodeling standard on every project we take on.

Architecture & Curb Appeal

Pull up to 824 Edison and the exterior tells you exactly what to expect inside. The facade combines white painted brick veneer on the central front-facing volume with dark charcoal HardiPlank siding on the side wing — a deliberate architectural contrast that breaks up the building's mass and gives the home a distinctive two-tone presence on the street. Black-framed Andersen windows, a covered front porch with steel railings, and a second-floor balcony overhead complete the look.

This isn't a cookie-cutter spec house. It's a considered design, executed by a team that understands how materials, proportion, and detail work together.

Exterior highlights:

  • White brick veneer (central façade) + dark HardiPlank siding (side volume)
  • 6–8 ft black Andersen windows throughout
  • Covered front porch with steel railings
  • Second-floor balcony over the entry
  • Architectural shingle roof
  • Fresh landscaping with black mulch beds

Interior Flow & Living Spaces

Step inside and the 10-foot ceilings do the talking. The main level opens from the entry into a continuous living, dining, and kitchen space — no chopped-up rooms, no wasted square footage. Engineered hardwood flooring runs the full length of all three levels, tying everything together visually.

The family room anchors the rear of the main floor, centered on an electric fireplace accent wall, with double sliding glass doors opening directly to the rear deck. Inside-outside living isn't a marketing phrase here — it's how the floor plan actually works.

Main level rooms:

  • Mud Room / Laundry — 11×10 ft (main level)

The Kitchen

In a home at this level, the kitchen has to earn its place as the centerpiece — and this one does.

  • 9-foot waterfall island — enough room for prep, seating, and conversation all at once
  • 42-inch tall upper cabinets — maximum storage, clean vertical lines
  • 36-inch, 6-burner gas range with a pot filler mounted above — a detail that separates a serious kitchen from a showroom kitchen
  • Walk-in pantry — 4×8 ft of dedicated storage
  • Double sliding glass doors to the rear deck — the grill is always one step away

Upper Level: Bedrooms & Private Spaces

Custom home building in Arlington, VA - Second floor plan (Project #74)

Four bedrooms on the second floor, each with engineered hardwood flooring and generous natural light from oversized Andersen windows. Three of the four have balcony access — a deliberate design choice that gives the upper level an indoor-outdoor quality that most homes at this price point simply don't offer.

Primary Suite — 14×18 ft

  • Private balcony access
  • Walk-in closet — 12×7 ft
  • Ensuite bathroom — 12×9 ft with soaking tub, walk-in shower, double vanity, and LED lighting throughout

Additional bedrooms:

  • Bedroom 2 — 13×10 ft, balcony access
  • Bedroom 3 — 16×10 ft, balcony access
  • Bedroom 4 — 12×10 ft

Basement: A Full Living Level

Custom home building in Arlington, VA - Basement plan (Project #74)

The basement at 824 Edison isn't a storage afterthought. It's a complete, finished living space with a private side entrance off the street. Whether it functions as a guest suite, entertainment level, or home office wing, it's built to handle all of it.

  • Recreation Room — 20×14 ft
  • Wet Bar — 12×7 ft
  • Bedroom 5 — 17×11 ft
  • Full bathroom — 10'11"×6'1"
  • Walk-up side entrance — private, ground-level access
  • Waterproofing system + sump pump throughout

Systems & Infrastructure

What makes new home construction last isn't always visible,  but it matters just as much as the finishes. Here's what's behind the walls:

  • 200+ amp electrical service
  • Natural gas + heat pump dual system
  • Central air conditioning
  • Tankless water heater (plus gas backup)
  • Full basement waterproofing with sump pump
  • Fiber optic broadband ready
  • Exterior security cameras
  • Concrete perimeter foundation
  • Smoke detectors throughout

Every system was sized correctly, installed to code, and signed off by Arlington County inspectors. No deferred maintenance, no hidden surprises.
